Tips for Dining Out:

  • Be aware of sodium levels for other meals when you know you’ll be dining out.
  • Ask how the food is prepared- has salt been added? Request no added salt and no salty rubs/marinades.
  • Request dressings, sauces, and gravies be placed on the side. Use a small amount for flavor.
  • Ask for protein baked, broiled, grilled, or roasted with herbs, spices, lemon, or wine.
  • Use lemon juice or oil & vinegar instead of salad dressing.
  • Ask for vegetables cooked with herbs & spices rather than butter or sauce.
  • Chain restaurants have nutrition facts online. Look before you go and decide if there are any good options.
  • Chain, fast food, and buffet restaurants will have limited options for accommodating requests. Choose restaurants that can be more accommodating to your healthy habits.

Tips for Social Activity:

  • Socializing can be beneficial for improving mood, relieving stress, and enjoying life.
  • Pick an activity that is pleasant and fun but not overly strenuous.
  • Plan to rest before and after the activity.
  • Speak to your provider if you have concerns about performing an activity.
